Sorry it took so long to reply.

We noticed DHCP went down because we monitor the external DNS availability on the hotspot through a DHCP enabled interface.

Looking in the windows event viewer of the Firstspot machine, we see following error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7034
Date: 9/01/2010
Time: 3:04:41
User: N/A
Computer: HVMWIFIGW2
Description:
The PatronSoft FirstSpot DHCP Server service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The DHCP log file does not show any error message.
We didn't try to enable it again.

So FirstSpot DHCP server is down because of some external programs? Can you re-enable FirstSpot DHCP server without other interference?

No that's not possible. I can only enable it on the operational hotspot, so it is always exposed to all hotspot clients.
With a lease time of 2 hours we typically have about 50 - 70 actual leases.

I'll re-enable the DHCP service this evening and see it fails again.
Testing remains difficult since everytime it fails the complete hotspot goes offline.

Understood. Can you post the most recent DHCP log which contains the time of the failure?

I enabled the DHCP server 5 days ago and it's still running without problems. I guess it was just 'bad luck' the first time?
I'll consider the problem fixed and will let you know if it becomes unstable again.

Please understand that FirstSpot v7 is really old and we don't support it anymore.

You need to upgrade to the current v8 in order to continue to receive support. To upgrade, please renew the maintenance using the below link:

http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/buy_now_3.html

Feel free to email us at firstspot@patronsoft.com if you have any problem on your purchase. Thank you for your understanding.
