Post subject: DHCP Server Issue
Hi there, I'm trying to install Firstspot demo software on Server 2003, however, I get the following error when I try to start from the configuration manager.

FirstSpot DHCP Server unable to bind required port

Any thoughts on what's wrong?

Most likely it is due to other DHCP server in your Windows that occupies the port. E.g. You need to turn off Windows DHCP server before starting FirstSpot.

You can also use command netstat to pinpoint the process that is holding the required port.

Alan, I checked everything, reloaded Firstspot and still can't figure out the problem. Here's the netstats, do they tell you anything? Also, as this is a development server I can give you RDP access if that would help. Regards, Jim

Actually, the DHCP server will need to listen to UDP port 67. Before FirstSpot is started, please issue the command:

netstat /a /n

to see whether UDP port is occupied. If you still have difficulties, feel free to email us your RDP access instruction at firstspot@patronsoft.com and we can take a look at your machine.

Note that below line:

UDP 10.20.7.1:67 *:*

It looks like some process is holding UDP port 67 which is needed by our DHCP server. Please try to identify this process and disable it.

As a last resort, you can simply install FirstSpot in another clean Windows instead.

Also, you can use the command:

to identify the exact process/service that is holding the port.

Once you identify the PID that is holding UDP port 67, you can use Windows Task Manager to pinpoint the exact process. Please note that you need to click "Show process from all users" in the bottom of the Processes tab to show the Windows services.
