Post subject: pre sales support our network set up 11g communications

we have a large wireless network over 20 km

at moment all infrastructure access points have static ip and are in wds transparent bridge mode

we have 10 - 2.4ghz hotspots where clients obtain ip from dhcp of server.

we have 20 fixed wireless clients who have an access point with dhcp on in there premisis.

image of simplified network real thing much bigger

http://screencast.com/t/bydDNrnif

our current software was unstable no software running and all hotspot radios off.

we require the software to see the fixed wireless client access point as the client, so that any requests from any devices connected to the access point are allowed access after 1 successful login has been made.

we also require hotspot clients to be able too obtain ip from server or software it is currently set with windows server doing dhcp and nat.

will the above work with firstspot and which operating system would you recommend before we start to install and do tests on a virtual server and test network.

it all works without software 100 percent.

many thanks

First, I can assure you that FirstSpot is quite stable and used by major organizations around the world.

For your case, please note the followings:

1) If you want to use FirstSpot or Windows DHCP server, you need to setup a DHCP relay in your wireless access point. In that case, your access point will relay the DHCP request back to the appropriate DHCP server

2) One way to satisfy your requirement of seeing the fixed wireless client access point as the client is to simply use FirstSpot MAC-based Session Handling. FirstSpot will then recognize the access point MAC address only and won't by able to the see the MAC of the client devices.

1) First, make sure you don't change Windows network connection name after installing FirstSpot

2) No, DHCP relay is not a must. You can either use static IP or let's the AP's DHCP server to hand out the IP (though you have to make sure the IP is right).

ok its because software loads a text file of all ips so enabled dhcp server in windows

better if you just had a dhcp server with scope range rater lan load a massive list of ips

1) Please try not to include a large list of IP in the DHCP Excluded IP list.

FirstSpot DHCP server scope is determined by Visitor Network Interface IP plus subnet mask, and then minus the DHCP Excluded IP. So if you want to shrink the scope, you can simply adjust the subnet mask

2) As for the auto-start problem, we can reproduce your issue in Windows 2008 R2 (64 bit). We will fix this problem in the next v8 update.

As a workaround, try to set your "PatronSoft FirstSpot Dispatcher" Windows service manually to Automatic. Refer to readme.rtf -> point 5 for more information.

We cannot reproduce your problem at this moment.

Maybe your datasource has problem. Did you somehow change the datasource directory or the FirstSpot datasource setting?

Post subject: backup

we have to go through the process of setting up software to be fully functional without issues,
is it possible for us to backup after making changes.
as if something causes an error and we have to reinstall it will take miniutes and not hours to get back to where we got to.
many thanks
