Post subject: Anonymous Access + XBOX

We have purchased this but don't have it set up yet. We are going to use the Anonymous Authentication and are going to require that the user agrees to our terms of service and then allow them through. I was wondering if we can use the whitelist feature to manually add the mac addresses for gaming systems such as XBOX 360's.

Will this work?

You can use Passive Login (won't work with Anonymous Option) or Client Pass-through. Both features are available in Advanced Edition only.

If I use Passive Login, I won't be able to make the users agree to our Terms of Service and if I use Pass-through mode I will have to know the MAC address of every machine that I want to allow to access the internet.

Is this correct?

For either Passive Login or Client Pass-through, you need to know the client MAC address in advance.

If you use Passive Login, you need to use the normal username/password mode (instead of Anonymous Option).

Please test the above features. It is the best way to understand them.

I just wanted to clarify a couple things for everyone else.

1. I am using Anonymous Authentication Mode and it DOES allow you to whitelist MAC addresses. It lets that traffic pass right through.

2. In the Configuration Manager and the firstpot_guide.pdf it states that whitelisted clients will not be subjected to the global bandwidth throttling. That is not correct, my whitelisted clients are subjected to the bandwidth throttling.

2. There is an error in firstspot_guide.pdf.

You are right, Global Bandwidth Throttling does apply to Client Pass-through.

Note that client pass-through will NOT work with Per User Bandwidth Throttling. You need to use "use MAC as username" or "Passive Login" instead.
