|

I am testing First Spot using 2.1 using Scenario 3.
I am using the same router to connect the First Spot server to the
internet and to connect to other routers that connect to the access point.
The router is also behind a firewall. In other words both nics would have private IP addresses on the same subnet.
Internet----Firewall------router (10.40.1.1)
Firstspot server (10.40.1.156)
router2 (10.50.1.1)
Access Point (10.50.1.150)
1. Do I need a secondary network card?
2. If yes to question 1 how does the secondary (Private)
card need to be configured?
Router IP 10.40.1.1 to internet and other routers
Internet NIC -
IP adress: 10.40.1.156
subnet: 255.255.255.0
GW: 10.40.1.1
Private NIC-
IP adress: 10.40.1.157
subnet: 255.255.255.0
GW: 10.40.1.156 |

Several observations:
1) You need 2 network interface in the FirstSpot server. The Private (Wi-Fi side) should be "10.40.1.x" and the Public (Internet side) needs to be able to access the Internet
2) please note the that client Wi-Fi traffic needs to "go through" FirstSpot in order to let FirstSpot to control the access. If the client goes through your router (without go through FirstSpot), FirstSpot cannot perform any access control.
For your case, the below path should work:
Wi-Fi client->AP->router2->FirstSpot->router(optional)->firewall->Internet _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |
