Post subject: Forced - Safari Splashed page on Ipad & Iphone

We are wondering if there is a way to force users on Ipad & Iphones to our firstspot Splash Screen page without them having to open safari?
Currently many of our hotel users logging in to our Open Wifi they do not go to Safari to type username & password. Since they think they are already connected they just go to check their emails and of course they do not succeed.
Then they call reception that internet is not working etc...

I have stayed in hotels that with my iphone as long as i go close to their open signal ... I get a Safari Splash screen with the username and Pass..

I know this can be pretty intrusive... it is a solution to what we are experiencing..

We are using - v7.0.6

Many Thanks

Did you just see the Safari username/password login box, or you see the complete splash page (captive portal, just like FirstSpot)?

We are investigating how it can be done.

We improve FirstSpot so that iPhone and iPad should see the splash page (i.e. captive portal, or iOS Captive Network Support) immediately after attaching to the AP. Note that you need set your AP to open network (i.e. no WEP, no WPA) for this iOS feature to work.

You can download the below patch at (applicable to v7.0.5 or later):

http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/download/patch/708/improve_ios_patch.zip

Just copy login_select.php to FirstSpot\authserv directory (backup the original first). Please test both iPhone/iPad and give us feedback.

Fantastic !!! Worked exactly as we wished...
Now all Iphone & Ipad Users know that there is a username & Pass Page... before starting to check their emails Smile
Impressive on how many people were not opening Safari although they knew they had a username and Password!!

Hi Alan,
Although we like this new system as it is clear to all iphone, pad users that there is a Login screen before they start browsing the net.
I have found that now they need to sign in on a daily basis and the system is not keeping them logged in unlike if you have a PC or MAC.
Is this a known issue?
thanks
Georgios

Did you enable "Logout automatically when Infobox is closed" (under UI Customization) or idle timeout?

It seems that i after we installed the Patch the following has changed:
Client Isolation was set originally to Yes now it is changed to NO

Bind to first login MAC address? Yes - No
Yes (login once - set as Passive Login after first login)

It is now Ticked as NO on the Group for our Hotel Room Guests.

What it should be so that they can use multiple devices with same username and all devices to remain Logged in?

I am sure that this was working fine before the Patch.. Tell me what is the correct setting for the Bind to First Login?

Thanks again for the Great Support

I don't think this patch will modify your FirstSpot setting at all.

I actually recommend that you consult the original person that setup this FirstSpot. This will make the troubleshoot much easier.

Anyway, for your case, please:
1) you need to select "Multiple Logins" for individual username/password
2) set Connection idle timeout under Dispatcher (Main) to blank, and then restart FirstSpot. Note that this will make client device stay login forever if he just turn off the machine before logout. You need to disconnect it manually under Status or shutdown FirstSpot to disconnect it. So please proceed with cautions.

Following on the Patch that we installed for the Splash Screen on Ipads & Iphones we have just realised that this is happening on MACBOOKS also!

Is there a possibility to eliminate this from Macbooks as we had a case that a guest had an Antivirus / Firewall Program installed that was not allowing this pop up screen to come up.

Client was not able to login to our system at all and we had add his MAC address to the Client Filter.

thanks for looking into it.
Regards

Theoretically, this is really the antivirus/firewall problem as it shouldn't block legitimate Apple Captive Network Support popup.

After some investigations, we find out that it is actually not that easy to distinguish between the captive network packet of iOS and MAC OS X. Maybe you can disable Captive Network Support in the client (MAC) side?

How can someone disable it? We will not do it as hopefully this was just an exemption but just in case it becomes a frequent issue?
thanks again for your great support
