Post subject: Installation, Setup and Configuration

I'm evaluating your product. I've successfully installed the product. However, when I try to access the "FirstSpot Configuration Manager Login" page, to configure the server, I cannot get to it. Is there a default uID and password?

Also can I get the wiring configuration if I have the following:

1 - AP (cisco 1100) - connected to the internet
2 - W2k server running First Spot (w/ 2 NIC)
3 - Wireless client

Hope to hear from you soon as I may have to look at other solutions if I can't get this to work by tomorrow.

Thanks...

Username/password for access to Configuration Manager: firstspot/password; that's also mentioned in the manual.

This is one of the topologies (we call it Scenario 1)

wireless client === AP === FirstSpot === router === Internet

Check this page for other scenarios:

http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/topologies.html

In your case, you can either use your Cisco box as a pure AP, you will then have to disable its routing function and put a any broadband router box to connect to the Internet.

Or, keeping the Cisco as the router and putting in any low-cost AP box will also do the job.

The file firstspot_guide.pdf is the user manual. It is in the trial package.

Post subject: Setup and Configuration

Hi:

I'm afraid I cannot call overseas on my phone. Do you guys have a US based toll free phone # i can contact for support? or have someone call me for techsupport. I've installed the First spot software successfully and configured my two NIC as follows.

I have 2 NIC card with the following IPs:

NIC1 (Public) - 10.32.12.109 -> this is our network
NIC2 (Private) - 192.168.1.1 -> this is the network I'll use for WLAN

Problem: From the Configuration Manager. I cannot "Start" the Firstspot. I keep getting an error "The private Network Interface and Public Network INterface network segments are overlapped (therefore Firstspot's routing wont work".

I even connected NIC2 to a w2k client (thru crossover). I guess the DHCP will not work until the Firstspot service is started.

What am I missing?

Post subject: Setup and Configuration

1. I uninstalled Firstspot completely from my W2k server sp4.
2. Rebooted the machine
3. Make sure that the Routing and Remote Access is started (it is)
4. Installed Firstspot using the typical/default installation.
5. After the installation, I double checked the "Routing and Remote Access" service. It got changed from Automatic to Manual and the service has stopped. Therefore I restarted it.
5. Brought up the Configuration Manager thru http://127.0.0.1:5787/setmain.php.
6. Clicked on Start to and get the following error message:

Tue Jun 07 12:54:00 2005 ***** All the error messages of session started at Tue Jun 07 12:54:00 2005 are shown below *****
Tue Jun 07 12:54:19 2005 The Private Network Interface and Public Network Interface network segments are overlapped (therefore FirstSpot's routing won't work). Please change the IP address
Tue Jun 07 12:55:33 2005 ***** All the error messages of session started at Tue Jun 07 12:55:33 2005 are shown below *****
Tue Jun 07 12:55:39 2005 The Private Network Interface and Public Network Interface network segments are overlapped (therefore FirstSpot's routing won't work). Please change the IP address
Tue Jun 07 12:56:53 2005 ***** All the error messages of session started at Tue Jun 07 12:56:53 2005 are shown below *****
Tue Jun 07 12:56:59 2005 The Private Network Interface and Public Network Interface network segments are overlapped (therefore FirstSpot's routing won't work). Please change the IP address

Can I get some help. Is it possible for someone to call me to discuss the problem? Note that the W2k server is a fresh installation.

Hope to hear from you soon. Additionally, if we do purchase this product, what is the toll free number for support and the hours (PST time).

Thank you.

asalespatron,

You did something incorrect in step #5.

Setting RRAS to start manually is what it requires. Please do not start the RRAS yourself; it needs to get started by our own FirstSpot process.

Please turn it back to manual (instead of automatic), reboot your machine and try starting FirstSpot.

We do not have a US support number yet; you can post your questions to this forum. For customers with valid maintenance contract, we provide a direct email for support issues.

Is it accurate the ""Routing and Remote Access" service is disabled by default. per your manual, we have to make sure it is installed. When you say installed, do you mean all we have to do is set the "service" to "Manual" and not "Automatic".

I skipped step #5, unfortunately it still would not come up. I uninstalled and reinstalled again while the ""Routing and Remote Access" is on manual mode but still the Configuration Manager would not allow Firstspot to start.

Any other suggestion? Does it matter if I change the private IP to 192.168.1.1 rather than using the default IP?

FYI. I installed the same trial version on a W2k Prof sp4, this time the web server or the "configuration manager" would not even come up.

Just keeping RRAS "service" as "Manual" will do.

Please post your config.ini files (under the FirstSpot directory) and ipconfig/all result executed on the FirstSpot machine.

What's the netmask you're using at the public interface?
