I installed the software (demo) cause i wanted to check it out on my wireless lan (works great btw) I used the Setup.msi that came with the program, did some testing and checking it out. Well, after i was finished i decided that i didnt want it on the machine i put it on so i figured well a quick uninstall should do the trick *cougph*... Anyway now when i boot up my computer i cannot get any internet... My ip is the one that my router always assighns me but still not internet.. The only way i can get the internet to work is by hooking up another Nic (3COM ethernet adapter USB) along with my existing nic in my computer and bridging the connections. Is this a problem with my routing? How do i fix?

Thanks

I suspect the uninstall process somehow fails to uninstall the driver. Please go to Network Properties. If you see FirstHop driver, uninstall it and reboot Windows.

BTW, isn't that you need 2 network cards to test FirstSpot? Where is the other one?

Ok i forgot to mention it automaticall turns off my firewall when I reboot also.. As for network properties i went to Network connections and right-clicked each adapter (sorry i had the usb one unplugged the first time) and went to the properties and did not see any FirstHop driver, i seen tcp/ip netbios, qos.... ect but no firsthop driver. Im gonna post a ipconfig /all this time with both adapters after a fresh reboot. ive also tried reinstalling your demo and uninstalling it again.

both adapters:

This is strange. The only "low-level" change FirstSpot did to your machine is the FirstHop driver.

Now, we need backtrack this step-by-step:
1) When you say you cannot connect to the Internet. Is it a DNS problem? Try command like "nslookup apple.com". Post the result.

2) If the above is successful, then it is routing problem. Note that I am talking about routing in your gateway 192.168.1.1. Use command tracert to identify the chokepoint.

Also, make sure the service "Routing and Remote Access" is stopped.

i dont think it is a dns problem, and i dont think it is a routing problem (cause i never messed with the routing table within my router) and routing and remote acess is stopped.

When I first turn on my computer with just the "NIC card" plugged into the router i get no internet i have to hook both the 3com usb ethernet and the NIC card up to the router and bridge both of these connections to get any kind of internet. I am running a DSL router and then a Linksys router behind that. I have the DSL router DMZ'd to the Linksys router so that im not double NAT'ing. This configuration has been working fine for me. I have not changed anything on either of these hardware devices. I looked them over and the routing tables look to be intact. Im pretty sure that the problem lies in my computer somewhere because of the simple fact i need 2 network devices briged together to get internet.

This is really puzzling.

Time to try a more drastic measure. You can try to use netsh command to reset your TCP/IP setting. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299357 for details.

(I suggest you backup your Windows first)

NEW NIC............. PROBLEM SOLVED! Software must have messed up my nic card somehow... i could have both the usb and the pci NIC's hooked up (without bridging them) and nothing would happen bridge them and then i would get connection. Unplugg the cat5 from the pci NIC and the usb NIC would take right off... so that got me thinking *lighbulb* "maybe my nic card is bad"... any how.. thanks for your help my TCP/IP stack is now reset havent seen any problems yet. Dunno how/why but NIC card was working prior to installing demo (i used it to download the demo) installed demo, uninstalled dead NIC. Maybe conflict or maybe it was time for it to go to sleep ;P Next time I install this software its gonna be on the machine I intend to use

thanks
