Post subject: trial software will not start

Ihave exactly the same problem as Chris_TX....

I have tried the software on 2 distinctly difernt laptops both win winxp one with sp2 and one with out sp2

and it is exactly the same.....the service does not start and every time you go to start it it goes back to stop imediately.

There is nothing in the logs except to say that you have used the login screen

Post subject: v4 beta 2 - unable to start & private IP question
Greetings,

I've just installed the beta2 for a quick eval, but I'm unable to get it to function.

Setup:
I've installed it on a HP Laptop (XP SP2) with both a onboard NIC (public) as well as a PCMCIA 3com nic (private). I have a crossover cable from the 3com to another laptop. My machine did not list "ms loopback" during the setup. I checked and disabled all the offload settings for both NIC's. We have Blackice as the desktop firewall, but it is currently disabled, ICS is not active, and windows firewall is also off.

Questions:
1. The admin tab says "stopped". When I try to manually start it, i do not get an error message and it jumps back to stop. The web page continously clicks at the rate of 1 per second.
Ipconfig shows 10.40.x.x for my onboard nic (my office network) and 10.20.x.x for the 3com.

2. How do I change the private IP address ? 10.20 is used by another office on our network. I tried putting in a 192.x.x.x for the private network, but I cannot get it to switch over.
The other machine either has no connection, or shows a 169.x.x.x address.

What did I do wrong, or where can I look to see what's failing ?

Just like Chris_TX case, please post the files error.log and firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log (under FirstSpot\log subdirectory).

I suspect your FirstHop driver is not installed correctly.

Did you click Yes EVERYTIME when Windows give you a Driver Signing warning?

This is strange. My gut feeling is that your problem is different than Chris_TX case.

Is it possible for you to setup remote access (e.g. VNC) so that we can take a look at your machine? Please send the instruction to firstpsot@patronsoft.com.

Post subject: version 3.14 starts

Hi Alan.

Thank you for all your hard work...the previous version of first spot work I can start it up now.

The main problem i was having was that winxp was saying the firstspot driver was invalid.....could you please explain to me the difference between the drivers in each version

There are several differences, but we cannot pinpoint which one causes this issue. Besides, there might be other factors too.

When you installed v4 beta 2 in two different machines, do they both have the Xircom 10M PCMCIA card? We still suspect there is some compatibility issues with that card as it is quite old.

Will you be able to setup the VNC environment (and install v4 beta 2 on it) so that we can troubleshoot further? This will certainly help us a lot to solve this problem.

Okay, but do both machines (that you tested v4 beta 2) have the Xircom card? That's seem to me is the only common point.

If yes, what is the Xircom card model number?
