Dispatcher crashes

We are driving the Demo-Version of FirstSpot 4.0 Beta2. An Order is schedules allready.
FirstSpot runs on Windows 2000 Pro. with latest patches from MS applied.
15 Cisco AP1100 are accessing the firstspot.

Now the problem:
Whenever more than one user accesses the firstspot proxy, it hangs after a few minutes. Eventlog says that the Application "" caused an error and drwatson had been involved.

Logonpage and the administration page are unaccessabel BUT DNS and a ping into the INternet still works fine.

Restaring the dispacher manually from the W2k Srevice-Console solves the Problem.
Until the next 2 users try to surf.

It´s very simple:
1st User tries to surf the internet, gets the logon page and losgs on or uses the exeption free webpages.
2nd user tries to surf the internet and nothign but pinging the internet works.
In most cases the 1st user is kicked also then.
Yes, all the nasty hardware extensions are disabled from the 3Com NICs.
Yes, I added in the Registry to disable offload also from the W2k side.
Now we try get the thing runngin with SSL disabled.

It is really urgend, Cause the Firstspot should have been gone live last week and the order is out allready.

So when the 2nd user tries to login, do you see the login page at all?

How do know it is dispatcher crashes instead of something else?

Please also post your firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log under FirstSpot\log directory.

Well,
we set up the proxy from scratch.
And abandon all aditional security.
Now it works quite fine.

And new issues and questions came up:
1) The connection ist reseted every 10 minutes.
2) What protocolls and / or services are vital for the proxy. We would like to disable everything which impacts the problem of fraud. First of all all SMB stuff.

Please advice.

Tp,

1) Are you using the trial version? Note that there is a 15 minutes session limit. See http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/editions.html for details.

2) You can check out the readme.rtf file. Yes, you should disable the SMB stuff (i.e. network sharing) if you are not using it. Also, FirstSpot will not work with personal firewall. Refer to http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=967 for more information

BTW, FirstSpot is not really a proxy (it is more like a router). You might want to check out our FAQ ( http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/faq.php ) for more discussion on this topic.

That´s the hint!
Many thanks. I missed that the trial version has an limitation to 15 minutes.
And I am goin to check out the advices to disable SMB. That´s good.

But I have to ask again: What service and/or protocols must be enabled to run firstspot.
The reason for asking is that BTs security is very strict. We have to harden all machines going to production. And you may remember my result when I tried to harden the Windows 2000 pro machine fistspot is running on: I killed it.

For Windows service, we need "Routing and Remote Access", which will create dependency like "Remote Registry Service" and probably others. So you need to be very careful.

For network protocol, we just need TCP/IP.
