Post subject: Not redirecting to login page

I have setup a FS trial. Everything seems setup properly. On first connect I get redirected to the logon page. Any time i try to connect to a webpage after I have logged off I get an error page. When I am having this problem I cannot even connect to the PatronSoft website.
There is an exception to this problem - if I type an IP address into the address bar then some of the time i get directed to the logon page.
I have checked DNS servers on the FS server - they are correct
I have re-installed windows on the server and re-installed FirstSpot and still get exactly the same error.
Do you have any suggestions?

Can you issue the command "nslookup apple.com" in the client side to verify your DNS is working properly? Also, can you check out http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1191 ?

If you still have difficulties, please post the followings:
1) ipconfig/all of the client PC
2) ipconfig/all of FirstSpot
3) config.ini file

Couple of observations:

1) Your DNS looks correct

2) Why are you using v3? Can you do the trial using the latest v4? (You can download v4 at http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/download_trial.html )

3) Please use class B (255.255.0.0) and class C (255.255.255.0) for Private network subnet mask. We don't officially support class A (255.0.0.0) subnet mask

4) Have you changed the default datasource? Since after you logout you encounter problem, I suspect something wrong with the database operation. Please try to use default datasource as a test.

1) Start "Routing and Remote Access"
- No errors in application logs at all

2) Now try to start FirstSpot. After FirstSpot is started successfully, check the "Routing and Remote Access" service again
- Started fine, no errors in application logs

I have found this in the LOG directory in log file firstspot_gw_srv_2006.05.11_12.00.10

11/05/2006 12:05:04 ** ServiceExecutionThread: disconnect client[10.0.17.40] due to interval is too short[Success]
(It appears quite a few times) - Not sure what it means, hope it helps identify the problem

Thanks bery much for your responses.

It turns out that It's not just when I logout - I have just restarted both PCs and it is still not working. It is still working sometimes when I put an IP address in the address bar.
I have changed the subnet mask and still no success.
I have not changed the default datasosurce, just added some accounts.
I downloaded the trial a while ago and only started setting it up now. Have spent hours customising and don't really want to go through it all again.
Does the '** ServiceExecutionThread: disconnect client[10.0.17.40] due to interval is too short[Success]' information mean anything?
Is it possibly the network card?
Any other suggestions?

I have tried to connect to the firstspot PC using a different computer and it is working fine. Trying to recreate the error on the second PC and I cannot. I try to connect the first one and it still won't work.
It's a brand new Dell laptop and the errors wer happening when connecting via wireless and cable.
Any ideas what could be causing the problems?
I am a bit concerned that this could happen with clients trying to access the network.
Is there anything I should know for clients if this happens to them?
Another concern is that the access point I am trying to attach it to can only use subnet mask 255.0.0.0 on the IP address that I am wanting to set it up on (10.0.0.2) Will this be a problem?
Thanks again for your assistance.

1) Not too sure why your first client PC does not work. As long as you are using FirstSpot DHCP server and the client PC obtains the IP correctly, you should be okay. Can you double-check your network topology and make sure FirstSpot Private Network Interface and your client PC belongs to the same network segment? Also, make sure your AP's DHCP server is turned off.

2) Note that AP IP is unrelated to FirstSpot at all. The only use for that IP is for administration.

Thanks again for all your assistance. I installed Firefox browser on the offending client PC and it redirects fine. Also tested another PC and it redirects perfectly. Obviously FirstSpot is working perfectly and there is a problem with the Internet Explorer on the client PC.
Any idea what the problem could be or what I can do to avoid this problem with client PCs in the future, or is it unlikely that we will experience the problem on another PC?

Try:

1) delete all cookies and Temporary Internet files
2) Make sure the Proxy Server setting is off
