Is it a new FirstSpot installation?

Also, please try to remove the HP Network Configuration DRIVER (don't just unbind) if it is available. Go to Network Properties (of any network card) -> select the HP driver ->click uninstall -> restart Windows.

Make sure Windows networking is still working correctly. Then try to reinstall FirstSpot.

Ok,

This is not working. I ran the server for 24 hours without Firstspot turned on, just routing traffic normally, and

did not reboot once. I made sure that no other protocols were bound to the NIc.

I reinstalled firstspot v3.14, but only had a few people log into it. This worked fine.

Then I lifted the restrictions, and again it started blue screening and rebooting every 15 mintues.

This was a progressively worsening situaiton on a current installation. At first it would maybe reboot every other day. Then steadly worsened until it was rebooting every 15 minutes becuase of blue screen.

Version is still 3.14

So did you uninstall the HP driver? Any other network driver that is running in your system?

If you still have difficulty, please post your firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log file under your FirstSpot\log directory.

Steps:

1) Uninstalled HP driver on NIC. Only firstspot, TCP/IP and MS protocols on there.

2) rebooted

3) Uninstalled FirstSpot

4) Rebooted

5) Ran normally for 12 hours.

6) Installed Firstspot, 3.14, did not turn on, ran normally while routing traffic for 12 hours.

7) Turned on Firstspot. Was getting blue screen within 10 minutes.

Hum, we focus on the compatibility testing for 2003 SP1 in v4.

Again, is it a new installation? Have you ever successfully run v3 in this environment in the past? Another thing to try is to install FirstSpot using a different brand of network card as Private Network Interface.

Also, please turn on Small Memory Dump (64 KB), and then zip and email us the directory windows\minidump for further analysis.

This was not a new installation.

Installed software about 4 months ??? ago. At the time, the server would maybe reboot every other day due to IRQ conflict. I could live with that. Since then it steadly worsend to where the server was rebooting every 15 - 20 mintues. After it got so bad, I wiped the machine and installed everything fresh. The problem was still the same, the server would reboot every 15-20 mintues. I thought at first it might be hardware issue, but replaced memory with new, and ran the server 24 hours with FirstSpot v 3.14 and v4.09 installed but not started. Traffic was still being routed through the server. The server did not reboot with the software off.

With either version, v3.14 or v4.09, started, the server will reboot in 15-20 minutes.

I am going to try a new NIC and see if that helps.

Still having the same issue.

I have insalled a new NIC as the "private" NIC. I made sure that the HP Network Adapter was uninstalled first. Installed version 4.09.

After 2 minutes, the server blue screened, indicating IRQ conflict. I have emailed the minidump to you.

Ok,

I tried installing v 3 and v 4 on a Dell Optiplex running Windows 2003 Server. The desktop ran fine until I started either one. It didn't even completely start before it blue screened.

I'm not sure what has happened. The software was running ok for the first 3-4 months. Now, just a blue screen when I start the software.

Any results from the minidump yet?

From your minidump, it seems that FirstSpot crashes very early in the process. This is quite unusual as we have many customers running 4.0.9 and we should have other similar reports already...

Anyhow, we retest v4.0.9 in Windows 2003 with SP1. We fail to reproduce your error so far. Here is our environment:

FirstSpot v4.0.9 Trial version
Windows 2003 with SP1
Windows update - Off
Windows Firewall - Off
no other software (e.g. antivirus)

In general, we recommend you to use plain environment like above to test FirstSpot (at least initially) and make sure everything works fine first. Since you install in different machine and FirstSpot still fails, I suspect:

1) some offending software - e.g. antivirus, admin tools or driver you installed prior to installing FirstSpot

2) something in your network trigger the problem. Please check your client PC as well (e.g. Spyware, BitTorrent?)

3) Of course, it might still be a FirstSpot bug. Is there anything in common among the several machines that you tested FirstSpot?

I have tested both machines in the simplest form possible.

Installed Windows 2003 Enterprise SP1

Used Firstspot for DNS and DHCP.

Used SQL 2000 SP4

Server 1 was HP Prolient DL360 G3

Sever 2 was Dell Optiplex GX270

NIC cards only had standard MS protocols and Firstspot driver

No Antivirus or software of any kind on either machine.

Tried even switching monitors, keyboard, and mouse.

Both machines will blue screen within minutes.

If I just enable Routing and Remote Access to shuttle traffic, both servers work fine.

The only thing that is the same would be the one private NIC card (and this problem was happening before on a differnet NIC), the Windows OS, and SQL 2000.
