Post subject: Advantages of RADIUS - migration?

We are installing the trial on an XP Pro box and intend to begin offering the service using this setup.

1. To use RADIUS I assume we would need to use Windows 2003 server.
If so what are the advantages of that setup over using FS on an XP Pro machine?

2. How easy is it to migtrate to W2003 server later? i.e. move the database and licence and switch on RADIUS.

It migration is more difficult than initial insallation then we could start with W2003 first but I'd rather avoid the extra expense until we see how it goes.

thanks

You should use ODBC Authentication Mode.

You might want to use RADIUS Authentication Mode if you already have a RADIUS server shared by another NAS. Note that the FirstSpot and RADIUS normally resides in different machine (for the reason that the RADIUS server is used by all the NAS). Please check out http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1175 for more information.

For migration, please check out Chapter 5 of firstpost_guide.pdf for details.
