Post subject: FSSendMail.exe

I'm running version 4.0.12
No active sessions and windows taskmanager shows fssendmail.exe running many times. The machine has slowed to a crawl. What's doing this?

Starting from v4.0.10 ( see http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=945 ), you can use your ISP SMTP server instead of FirstSpot's one. Here are the steps:

1) turn on SMTP roaming within Configuration Manager.
2) set IspSmtpDomain=[your SMTP server domain name] in your config.ini.
3) Restart FirstSpot.

The problem is when the SMTP roaming is Enabled.
The SMTP server is set to our mail server.
Whenever the roaming is enabled, I get many FSSendMail.exe tasks using ALL the CPU time. Where is the mail it is trying to send?

Not really sure about your problem. Please :

1) make sure the FirstSpot machine can connect to mail.glider.com via port 25. The easiest test is to open Outlook and send an email via mail.glider.com in the FirstSpot machine

2) remove the below entries in config.ini, and then restart FirstSpot:

receivedMail0=0
receivedMail1=2
receivedMail2=0
receivedMail3=0
receivedMail4=0
receivedMail5=0
receivedMail6=0

Removing the entries has no effect.

Yes, Outlook can connect to mail.glider.com. The mail settings require "my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authenication". How is this enabled in FirstSpot?

Background: This FirstSpot installation ran for about 3 weeks of testing before this problem started. When I started having this problem, SMTP Roaming was enabled with no outgoing SMTP set. So I think we are looking in the wrong place.

Well, we haven't done much testing on option "my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" for the IspSmtpDomain parameter. Is it possible for you to try an external SMTP server without authentication, at least as a test?

Please read the background. This problem did NOT exist with the SMTP setting blank AND SMTP Roaming enabled (default installation settings).

The CPU loading (FSSendMail.exe) started for no reason I can find.

I've added mail.glider.com after the problem started per your request and resulted in no change.

Ok, set IspSmtpDomain=smtp.sbcglobal.net and FSSendMail.exe shows up in the taskmanger running 50% cpu and in a few moments another shows up and then in another few minutes another.

I've disabled SMTP roaming until a fix can be found. Thanks.

FirstSpot v4 SMTP does not support SMTP server that requires authentication. You need to use an external SMTP that will work without authentication.

The upcoming v5 will support SMTP server that requires authentication.
