Post subject: Cannot access Internet upon FirstSpot Startup

BEFORE I start FirstSpot, I am able to access the Internet fine through the public interface on the server. After I start the FirstSpot services, I cannot access the Internet through the public Interface on the server. I tried an nslookup, as well as a direct IP of a site, both failed. Also, FirstSpot goes into reduced functionality mode as well.

The only way I can make it work is during the startup, when it disables the private NIC, I release the IP of the public card, and when it enables the private NIC, I do an ipconfig/renew 3-4 times, and it sticks. FirstSpot does NOT go into reduced functionality, and I can access the Internet from the server as well as the clients on the private side (after signing in of course).

Any thoughts why this happens? It's kind of a pain to go to the console and do this every time we have to make a change.

Jeremy

Forgot to mention we are using FirstSpot 4.0.12 Advanced Edition, and all offloading has been disabled, including DisableTaskOffload.

My obvious question is : does FirstSpot works before in this machine? Did you change anything before it breaks?

Without a lot of details, my best guess is there is some conflict in your "Default Gateway" of your PublicNIC. When FirstSpot is started (which will cause the IP setting in PrivateNIC to change), somehow it creates conflict and Windows will automatically blank out the conflicting settings.

FirstSpot has worked on this machine before with the current configuration. We've ran it that way for a good part of a year. It started doing this about a week ago. I thought it was someone flooding the network, but it wasn't the case. The system's IPs are as follows:

No updates were applied, since that's what happened the last time we had troubles with FirstSpot.

Please do the following tests (after FirstSpot has been started and Internet is NOT working) and post your result:

1)
nslookup
set d2
apple.com

2) ping apple.com

3) tracert apple.com

It is obvious that your DNS has issue. Have you changed anything related to DNS within FirstSpot?

I have not changed any DNS settings within FirstSpot, since I know it should take the DNS settings from the public NIC.

Please post the log file firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log at FirstSpot\log directory for further analysis.
