|

I have a strange issue with two clients. These clients would have been used in all testing prior to purchasing FirstSpot.
The two clients in question can only access certain sites, e.g. google, skysports. When they try to access other sites, IE just times out.
The same behaviour occurs on both clients using different usernames.
I have tested it in Firefox and the same happens.
I've gone through the firstspot configuration and I cannot see anything that is causing this behaviour.
I can ping all sites from the clients command prompt. |

Are you using FirstSpot DHCP for all your clients? Please make sure the client's IP and DNS settings are obtained from FirstSpot DHCP. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Yes both clients are using firstspot DHCP, the same as all the working clients. |

Please issue the following command in your two problematic client PC:
nslookup apple.com
(assuming the client has problem with apple.com)
Please post the result. Also, post the ipconfig/all output of client PC. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Can you double-check that the 2 client PCs are not using proxy?
Also, are google and skysports in the Exception Free Websites list? _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Neither client uses a proxy when on this network.
Neither of the websites are in the exception list of Configuration Manager. |

To add to the weirdness !!!
On one of the clients, All the sites work over the wired card but not the wireless card. I can access other WLANs and get full internet access with no problems.
So I was wondering could Firstspot be filtering by the MAC Address. I can see nothing in the Configuration Manager but perhaps something is being stored in a file on the pc ????????? |

I meant the Firstspot pc, not the client pc, in case that's not clear. |

FirstSpot won't perform filtering by MAC. The IP Block List feature within FirstSpot will treat all the client PC equally.
BTW, have you restarted your FirstSpot (or the FirstSpot machine) recently?
Please also post the ipconfig/all output of your FirstSpot machine. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

We restarted the PC recently but I restarted the services again this morning and the problem still exists.

So these 2 clients have problem since you setup your FirstSpot from day one? Or it works okay for a while and then turns bad later?
We have scattered report of problem about Broadcom network card as Private Network Interface. So if you have problem since day one, you might want to switch network card. Please refer to readme.rtf for instruction to change network card. Email us at firstspot@patronsoft.com so that I can generate a new license key for you. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

These clients were working up to a point but I cannot tell you what point. These clients were used for all the testing prior to purchasing FirstSpot.
All other clients on FirstSpot are working with no problems at all.
I do not think changing the network card will help. |

A slight correction, the IP Block List feature will apply to client depending on user attributes.
Can you post your config.ini file?
Also, is it possible to setup another FirstSpot (just use the trial version is fine), and use these 2 client PC to access the Internet through this new FirstSpot? Try to use all default settings within FirstSpot. This test can help us to narrow down the issue a bit. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |
