Post subject: stuck on 'starting'

v4 advanced

Whenever I restart firstspot from within the configuration website. It just sits on starting. I have to reboot the machine to get anywhere.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Ronnie

So you have this problem every time you click restart?

Can you try to click stop, then pause for around 10 seconds, and then click start? Do you get the same problem?

Also, please post the ipconfig/all output of your FirstSpot machine.

Maybe the Netgear card is not quite compatible with FirstSpot's driver (tied to Private Network Interface only). Can you try to pick another card as Private Network Interface?

I suppose I could. I would have to change MAC bound to license. Is that going to use one of my HW changes? This problem did not present itself as soon as we installed.

No, we won't count this as hardware change.

The key point is that you need to ensure (at least using the trial version) that the new setup does solve your problem.

Once you get everything working, just email us (with your new MAC) at firstspot@patronsoft.com.

BTW, what is the exact version of FirstSpot (e.g. v4.0.13) are you currently using?

We still want to look into this issue (even though switching network card may solve this). Also, can you zip and email us all your log files (under FirstSpot\log and FirstSpot\log\archive directory) for further analysis? Please email to firstspot@patronsoft.com. Thank you.

I too suffer from this problem. (three times so far - had to reboot computer each time). When I stop or restart the hotspot, should I disconnect all users first?

MessWeb, can you zip and email us at firstspot@patronsoft.com your log files under FirstSpot\log directory for further analysis? Note that the log under FirstSpot\log directory is the current log, so you need to encounter a failed restart, and then send us that particular log before your next start.

For all users that have this starting (or restarting issue), please add the following line:

_skip_nic_disable_enable=true

to [misc] section of config.ini. This will skip the disable/enable sequence during FirstSpot startup. The downside is that now the startup will be slower (refer to readme.rtf for more explanation).

Please give us feedback on whether this parameter solves your issue.
