Post subject: Service will not start

We changed our NIC card, reinstalled FS and received the new license key but we are having problems with FS starting. We tried to start the service, and the status changed to "Starting", only to change back to "Stopped" after a few seconds. There is no error message shown. We changed back to the old NIC which had been working and have the same problem. We did not change anything on our configuration. Any tips or ideas?

Can you post:

1) config.ini
2) The log file firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log and error.log under FirstSpot\log directory?
3) ipconfig/all output of your FirstSpot machine

Checking in the log folder there is not a file firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log. Here are the others you asked for:

Please check whether the FirstHop driver is binded correctly for your Private Network Interface. You can go to Device Manager -> View -> Show hidden devices, or Network Connection folder -> click the Private Network Interface -> Properties.

Also, make sure Driver Signing warning is set to "ignore" before installing FirstSpot. Refer to readme.rtf for details.

Yes the Device Manager shows the FirstHop assigned to the NIC card we are using and Driver Signing is set to Ignore.

Is it assigned to "Local Area Connection 3" (Intel card)?

Can you post your error.log also?

We have been searching logs to see if we can find a configuration problem. The Windows Event Viewer shows an error when we try to start FirstSpot. It says, "The PatronSoft FirstSpot Dispatcher service depends on the following nonexistent service: browser". We have Internet Explorer Browser version 6 installed on the server. Any advise?

Okay, I understand your problem.

The Browser service (Display name : Computer Browser) is an essential part of Windows. Please try to fix this problem (check Google or Microsoft documentation), or as a last resort you need to reinstall Windows.

Some how through the uninstalling and reinstalling of FS the Computer Browser service of Windows was deleted. We would not have found that if we had not looked at the Event Viewer logs through Admin Tools which showed FirstSpot tried to start the browser service but it was not available. A restore to an earlier date reinstalled the Browser service and First Spot started the first time. This could be a tip for other people having the problem of First Spot not starting.

I don't think uninstall FirstSpot will delete browser service. But anyway, glad that you solve the problem...
