Post subject: IP address renew

I am running V5.0 setting Firstspot server as DHCP server. Once or twice a week client cannot get new IP address or renew their IP address though "PatronSoft FirstSpot DHCP Server" service is running. I have to manually restart "PatronSoft FirstSpot DHCP Server" service to issue or renew IP addres. Do you have any fix for this problem. Many thanks in advance.

When the problem appears, if one client get stuck, does other client can still get the IP (i.e. only that one client has problem)? Or at this point, FirstSpot has to be restarted (since the FirstSpot DHCP completely failed to work)?

At this point no one gets IP address.

I switched authentication mode to RADIUS. DHCP still stop working once or twice a day and users are getting error message which says "Login is Invalid." It seems happening when online user number reaches around 60. Is there any patche or upgrade available?

Please test the soon-to-release v5.1.0 update. I will send you the download link via email. Note that you need to uninstall/reinstall (since this update involves database table definition change, you cannot upgrade as previously mentioned. The next update v5.1.1 will most likely support upgrade though).

Refer to chapter 5 of firstspot_guide.pdf for upgrade instructions.

Thank you for your response. I will try it ASAP. F.Y.I The maximum number of online users is 63. After reaching that number no new user could be connected anymore. I hope the new version will fix this issue.

This is not normal. Maybe you just run out of IP pool? Refer to chapter 3 -> DHCP section of firstspot_guide.pdf on how FirstSpot determines the IP address pool.

Post subject: Invalid Login!

I upgraded to V5.1.0 but problem continues. It may not be an issue of number of online users anymore. Now 19 users are online and new users get "Invalid Login! Please Try Again" message. No one can be authenticated by RADIUS server from this moment. I checked log files both on IAS server and FirstSpot. IAS server doesn't get proper user ID. It all gets "0X" as user ID. Firstspot server seems to send login request to SQL DB according to the logs I will attach at the bottom of this message.

Please try to add the following parameter under [gateway] section of config.ini:

infobox_refresh_timer=300000

(this parameter is the InfoBox refresh interval in ms. The above parameter will change the interval to 5 minutes. The default is 1 minute)

We fixed some issues in the RADIUS Authentication Mode. Please download the following file:

http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/download/patch/511/FirstSpotCore.zip

unzip and copy it to your new v5.1.0 installation at FirstSpot\dispatcher directory.

Please give us feedback on whether your situation improves.

Replacing FirstSpotCore.exe solved the problem. It has been running for a week with no problem. Thank you for your support.
