Post subject: DHCP

Is there a way that I can use the Microsoft DHCP server? I have a large outdoor Tropos network that the DHCP in patronsoft for some reason will not issues Ip addresses to the clients . If I use the microsoft DHCP server it works fine.

The tropos radios require the dhcp server to support unicast.

Thank you

Yes. You just need to turn off FirstSpot DHCP server within Configuration Manager -> DHCP.

Note that there is a bug in FirstSpot which will stop Microsoft DHCP Server service even if FirstSpot DHCP server setting is set to disabled. This problem is fixed in v5.1.1 ( which we release today, you can download it again at http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/download_trial.html ).

As a workaround, if you are using the v5.1.0 (or v5.0.0), create a batch file with the following command:

net start dhcpserver

and then put the batch file under "Path & filename for post-startup batch file" feature.

Are there any ramifications of not using the FirstSpot DHCP/DNS server besides the Instant Keywords not working?

Client Isolation also won't work if not using FirstSpot DHCP server. The rest should work fine.
