Post subject: how to upgrade from 5.0.0 to 5.1.3

Hi,

We are currently using the v5.0.0 Advanced Edition (w/ Maintenance contract) which we have installed January 2008. I need your help to teach me the steps on how to upgrade from version 5.0.0 to 5.1.3.

Do I just install the latest version or do I need to reinstall it?

How will the database and customised php pages be affected?

Thanks much,

Dexter

You need to uninstall/reinstall, and then reapply your customization. For database, you need to do a export/import through the Configuration Manager UI. Please check out chapter 5 of firstspot_guide.pdf for the exact steps.

Note that for minor upgrade in the future (e.g. 5.1.3 -> 5.1.x), the FirstSpot setup.msi will support upgrade (without reinstall).

Thanks for your reply. I'll check the firstspot guide re: upgrade steps.

Just another question, will v5.1.3 recognize the v5.0.0 config.ini settings? Or do I have to configure again 5.1.3 all over again after reinstall?

You need to export the FirstSpot setting using command line program fsset.exe.

FirstSpot Guide will have the instruction.

Ok. We're thinking of the possibility of installing the upgrade version in another server/machine and migrating the settings/database/files there too. Afterwards we will swap this new box with the old server so that we will be minimizing downtime.

However, we have to consider the different (private) NIC card of the new server. Will it be possible to request for a temporary/new license key for this new NIC?

Thanks in advance!
