Post subject: Best practice scenario

I am testing this software and I need a few suggestions for the following scenario.

This will be in 3 different patient walk in offices that are in residential areas. They want free internet access for patients and guests but closed to the outside world.

Obviously the wireless will be open, which means any joe schmoe outsaide can see it. Access will be based your FirstSpot product.

My problem is, how do I handle granting access. The receptionists are no where near savvy enough to be taught how to login to this product and creatde temp access accounts. I am even considering having guests create their own accounts that won't be active until they go to the front desk and request their newly created account become active. From their the reception logs in and activates it for x minutes. That may still be too much for them to handle.

Any suggestions b4 we commit to purchasing this product?

There are 3 options:

1) You can train your receptionist to use QuickAdd (Configuration Manager -> Users). QuickAdd can tie to a fixed "Plan" so that your receptionist won't need to set user attributes each time. It only involves a few mouse clicks.

2) You can use self sign-up. Setup a Plan which the user is initially "disabled" and with attributes you like (e.g. access minutes = 60 minutes). The receptionist can then manually enable the username at the appropriate time.

3) You can pre-create a bunch of account is using Bulk Account feature. Then let the receptionist hand out the username one-by-one
