Post subject: SMTP Error 10060

I use the SMTP roaming on FirstSpot. The client can send the e-mail to FirstSpot's server, but when FirstSpot tries to send it out, in the log it gets an error 10060. I'm thinking this might be that the ISP only allows SMTP from their OWN server (mail.goNDTC.com). Is there a way that the SMTP on FirstSpot can be modified so the SMTP server mail.goNDTC.com can accept any e-mails we shoot at it WITHOUT having to change the e-mail settings? We use this at a hotel, so it's a hassle for the guests.

If 10060 is really due to the reason you stated, it is really the responsibility on the receiving end that rejects the email. Our research shows that only a small amount of email system will do the reverse DNS lookup you described, which will block a lot of legitimate emails anyway.

BTW, 10060 might be cause by your ISP blocking port 25 or just the receiving SMTP server is down. So you need to confirm the root cause of your issue.

From your log, there are 2 possibilities:

1) your ISP blocks port 25 (more likely)
2) the target SMTP server is down

Please check with your ISP. You may need to upgrade your line.

Talked to the ISP provider. He said change the MTA to "mail.goNDTC.com", and it should be fine. Any way to do this?

I guess what your ISP means is that you need to set ALL Outlook clients SMTP setting to "mail.goNDTC.com". Well, if you can accept that, you can turn off FirstSpot SMTP roaming feature completely.

Refer to firstspot_guide.pdf for more background information about why you need STMP roaming in the first place.

Well, that's the trouble we're trying to avoid in the first place... lol We might do a move to a different ISP if this is how it will turn out.

yvon, from the client point of view, it is too troublesome to change the Outlook SMTP setting, or sometimes they are not technical enough to do so. That why FirstSpot has a feature called SMTP roaming, which basically let client to send email regardless of his SMTP setting. The prerequisite, of course, is that the ISP needs to allow traffic from port 25 to pass through.

Post subject: Mail Forwarder Relay Server

Firstspot should provide a way to forward otherwise undeliverable mail to an ISP mail server. This is in case the Hot Spot is on a dymanic IP or has an otherwise undesirable IP address that the receiving mail server will not accept mail from. You should also provide an authorization mechanism to allow for ISPs that require authorized SMTP for that forwarding mail server.
In this way the user can receive the mail back as undeliverable if they keyed in a wrong email address or the mail is otherwise undeliverable.
Having a mail server available inside FirstSpot is a good first step in working around blocking mail servers, but needs to be enhanced to allow mail forwarding and relay capabilities in the case of undeliverable mail.

i have a same problem with my cmailserver and i see this option send via another isp smtp server

but you can put this option on next version

We release a new v4 update which contains the capability to redirect client SMTP requests to the ISP's SMTP server instead of using FirstSpot's own SMTP server (note that SMTP login is not supported yet).
