Cisco 4400 Series Wireless Lan Controllers

Can someone please tell me if Cisco 4400 Series Wireless lan Controllers are supported with FirstSpot?

Our Entire network runs off of them.

Yes, as FirstSpot is completely AP neutral ( see http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/faq.php ).

Note that you might need to turn off some of services (e.g. DNS, DHCP)within your Controller as FirstSpot already provide them. Also, some of feature like QoS you need to decide whether you want to use the one in FirstSpot or your Controller.

It works very well. - I have a network of 150+ APs with several Cisco 4400s.

The APs are each running a couple of company related wlans (mapped to specific vlans) and a guest network with the Firstspot software.

holmallen you have cisco 4400s can i ask you a question.
about vlans.
im currently using a strix radio. which presents multiple vlans to the private interface. how did you configure your 4400 to handle multiple vlans.
what i mean is what configuration have you on your switch at port level.
to route multiple vlans?

Hi there,

Well the ports in my switches connected to the Cisco 4400s are configured as trunking ports. Trunking means is able to handle more than one vlan in one port.

The config on Cisco is pretty straight forward

interface GigabitEthernet<port number>/<port number>
description Attatched to C4400
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 101,202,303
switchport mode trunk

i know have all vlans going into my first spot private interface
dhcp hands out the right ip for the subnet i configured for each vlan.
but im unable to surf the net.
did you have to add any routes in your switch.
and how did you configure the multiple network segments in firstspot?
ie one of my vlans has a gateway of 10.3.0.1
hot spot public interface is 10.1.0.2

so in multi network segments
i set up

router ip 10.3.0.1
subnet 255.255.0.0
gateway path 10.1.0.2
redirect no (for know)

does this sound right?

Clients are unable to get a DHCP address via our 4400 controllers? When connecting to FirsSpot server with X-Over cable client picks up address fine and FirstSpot works normal. When using Wireless the DHCP log file shows that an address is attempting to be given out but a message is repeated stating "Client [00-16-ce-68-b5-68] not configured?

I setup an interface:

Interface Name = wmcwifi

Interface Address

VLAN Identifier = 223
IP Address = 192.168.223.10
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 192.168.223.2 (note: this is FirstSpot Server address)
Physical Information

Port Number = 1
Backup Port = 0
