Post subject: Cannot get it to work

Hi!
I'm trying out Firstspot Trial now, but I can't get it to work.
The setup *seems* correct, but when I connect a PC directly into the same VLAN as the inside foot, I get a DHCP address, but when I type in http://192.168.185.1, it changes to http://192.168.185.1/index.html, but it says: The webpage cannot be found.

The apache service seems to be running, because the configuration manager works, and it says that the Firstspot Status is Running.

So what can be wrong?
And one thing, why does First spot set the gateway in Routing and Remote access manager to 1.1.1.1?

thanks.

Please check out http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1088 .

Your Routing and Remote Access is correct. Please don't change anything in it.

That's the problem, nothing happens when I type in a url in my browser.
Therefor I tried to do as it said in the Firstspot manual, to type in the ip address to the Firstspot box.
And then I get the error mentioned above.

Something wrong with your setup. Please make sure:

1) there is no other DHCP server in the hotspot network segment
2) FirstSpot is started correctly
3) there is no router between FirstSpot and the client PC

If you still have difficulties, please post your:
- ipconfig/all for the client PC
- ipconfig/all for the FirstSpot machine

There is no DHCP server, this runs on a dedicated VLAN.
There is a DHCP server in the Cisco WLC, but right now the actual WLAN is disabled for testing purposes. In addtion, I have set up DHCP override on that WLAN.

Firstspot states that it is started, is there something else I can check out there?

How come there is no Default Gateway for adapter DMZ?

In general, you might want to start with a simpler environment first. No VLAN, and no other DHCP server. And you are using VM in the FirstSpot machine? It might create issues. Once you get FirstSpot working property, you can then start to increase the complexity.

It's not possible to make it simpler than this.
The WLAN in the Cisco WLC is disabled and therfore the DHCP server in there is too.
I have my client PC connected directly to the VLAN with a cable.
And the Hotspot Inside card is connected to the same VLAN.

And still it doesn't work.

Yes, the Windows 2003 server i run Firstspot on is on a VMWare server. So the problem must lie there then.
We have a fully working chillispot installation working there, though.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Simply because I forgot to put it there :)
It's in there now, though.

This default gateway is important since FirstSpot machine relies on it in order to know how to access the Internet.

You might want to go through the test stated in http://patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1086 . Tell me your result.

So you have Offloading issue (mentioned in the readme.rtf)? Is your problem solved?

I checked and Offloading was turned off as default on both network cards.
I guess it is some VMWare issue then.

Thanks for all your help so far.

In that case, you do need to test FirstSpot using a physical Ethernet network card.
