Post subject: Banning/Blocking Repeat Offenders

Waht is the easiest way to ban/block a user with their oen laptop from accessing the hotspot again, regardless of whether they use their own credentials or someone else's?

Clearly the user ID can be blocked/suspended easily (in the config manager). This will prevent them from logging on from another computer (they would need another set of credentials).

An IP can also be easily blocked (in the config manager), but that IP of any given computer will change based on which address the Firstspot DHCP server assigns it (thus allowing them to get online as long as they have another username/password.)

Can an IP reservation can be made based on MAC address, and then that IP be blocked in the Configuration Manager to achieve a "ban" on them (their account) and their computer (MAC address)? If that is possible, when combined with a user account ban, the offending person would need a new MAC (computer or card) AND an extra set of credntials. That should be sufficient to accoplish my goals.

Thanks!

Actually, we have a new feature called "Client Black List" in the upcoming v5 that will achieve this. See http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1880 for details.

So is this possible in v4? I have exisiting customers with v4, as well as customers who may purchase before v5 is publicly released.

The exact "Client Black List" feature won't be available in v4.

As a workaround, you can try DHCP "Allocate IP only when IP-MAC mapping is defined (Excluded IP table will be ignored)" option.
