Post subject: FSSendMail.exe

I am getting constant errors with this program now, and eventually the firstspot stops responding altogether.

FSSendMail.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Typical built-in Windows error message. What would be causing this process to fail repeatedly? I click Close on the error message and it just comes back a couple of minutes later. If I don't close them, I end up with a stack of hundreds of the messages.

I have no idea if this will help or not but here is the appcompat.txt file contents relating to this error:

There are also a couple of fssendmail.exe.hdmp and .mdmp files created every time there is an error.

Using version 4.0.0

Are you an existing customer? Can you try the new v5 ( http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/download_trial.html )?

Yes, I am a current customer. I have made significant customisations to the authentication section of Firstspot for my own purposes and I wouldn't want to lose that right now. I am hoping to go to v5 in a little while, but once I have a chance to download it and set it up, recreating my authentication changes. But for the moment, I have a v4 system that isn't working right and am asking for assistance with it.

Please check out http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1528 . You need to configure your FirstSpot to use the ISP or external hosting SMTP server.

This just started for me out of nowhere last week. My mail server hasn't changed in months, and I've had firstspot running for a year now (maybe more) without this problem. Hm... that does sound more like a problem on my end when I say it that way. ;) I will check out the mail server settings to see if someone has modified it to require authentication and see if I can figure out what else might have changed.

Thanks for the quick responses... I'll investigate and let you know. I'm working on it right now, so it should be soon.

Well, I didn't fix the problem, but I made the symptoms go away. I just disabled SMTP Roaming altogether. It's a nice feature, but I'll just leave it off until I get a chance to upgrade to v5.
