Post subject: Restart problem

clean install xp.
Firstspot install.Login page appears and can surf the internet. No problems, everything works.
Restart firstspot or update any parameters which require restart and user is shown as logged in but not possible to connect to internet.Redirect page goes nowhere.
Restart computer and public NIC tries forever to get IP address.
Can somebody please offer some help as to what may be wrongly configured.
Have looked in registry and no offloading options are shown for either adapter. All other services mentioned in the documentation have been disabled or set to the required setting for the first startup.
What gets me is that the first startup goes perfectly with no errors or problems and then nothing works.
I fully accept that I must be doing something wrong on the basis of "garbage in,Garbage out" BUT WHAT!!
Any help would be more than welcome.

Thanks

Maybe your network is not configured properly? To obtain IP for your public nic, issue:

ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew

BTW, the offloading issue only affects the private side (but not the public side).

If you still have issue, you should just uninstall/reinstall FirstSpot.

Post subject: Restart problem

Ok,ipconfig/release worked ok but when i tried ipconfig/renew i got the message "rpc server not available"

De-installed firstspot and still have the same problem when i re-install.

I have now done two clean installs xp and always the same problem. It works fine until I restart Firstspot and then no internet access.I have internet access before and if i connect another computer to the router i have also access to the internet.
Any help welcome.

Post subject: Restart problem

Still having problems with restarting.
With a clean install of xp and both Nics showing connected and no problem to access the internet with Explorer.I then install Firstspot and using the sample user can connect to the internet with a laptop through the hotspot. If I restart firstspot i can connect to the AP and also get the login screen and can login also.At this point I am also shown as user in the configuration panel of firstspot and the info box shows me as connected.I cannot however connect to the internet anymore. On the computer which is running Firstspot it is still possible to access the internet using my normal browser and both Nics show as being connected.
My settings are as follows when firstspot is started:
DNS.....disabled....Started
DHCP....disabled...Started
Routing and remote......Manual.......started
ICS.......manual.......stopped
Qos.....is not checked
IIS and www publishing do not seem to be present
My router has DHCP activated and the AP has DHCP deactivated.
If I restart the computer the Public Nic cannot obtain a IP and just keeps trying and trying.
Obviously something is not configured correctly,BUT WHAT?
Please Help.

Good to see your clear reply and here are some further recommendations for you.

1) In the FirstSpot machine, make sure the service DHCP Client is always started such that the public NIC can obtain IP through DHCP properly.

2) If you choose your own router to provide DHCP service in the private network, your have to ensure the router supports DHCP Relay feature and setup Multiple Network Segments in Configuration Manager. Please refer to chapter 4 in firstspot_guide.pdf for more information. As this is not a one-step process, we suggest you to keep using FirstSpot's DHCP Server for simplicity.
