OK, this is a new problem. Everything was working fine until a day or two ago... now this is happening.
I can connect to the wireless network fine. I type in my address (I use www.theonion.com as a test, because I know it's not in my exception list), and I get the captive portal login page. I log in, no problem, I see the "you will be redirected" message, then I see my terms page (which I have turned on). I click Accept on that page, and then it just tries endlessly to reach the website. Eventually it times out and tries to load my default google search page for a domain not found, but fails at that, too. I can browse easily from the firstspot server, so I know that the connection to the internet is working (I'm actually using the server to type this post). Any thoughts on what could be doing on? I've checked the offloading for both cards, and neither says anything about "checksum". |

Oh, and DNS is working fine from a client. I can try to ping any site I can think of - it resolves the address and tries to ping, but it never gets any response. |

Using Wireshark I've been able to determine that no traffic is being passed from the wireless-network card to the wired-network card. Why this would happen all of a sudden I'm not sure, but thought I'd add that on in case Alan has any ideas.... (I hope? :) |

Uninstall, reinstall, move all my modified files back to where they were... and it works.
No idea why it would have stopped working, but I suspect there was an issue with the firsthop.
I noticed something when it wasn't working that I had never noticed before - when rebooting the computer it took about 2 minutes (not an exaggeration) for the network interfaces to actually be accessible (ie. opening Network Connections or seeing my icons in the system tray). Any attempt to open the firstspot admin page at this point just locked up IE until the interfaces came online. If you tried to get into Network Connections, same deal... nothing would happen.
I then uninstalled Firstspot (which also uninstalls the firsthop), and when I rebooted the interfaces came up immediately.
I reinstalled Firstspot and again it took about two minutes for the interfaces to be accessible. However, the passthrough worked this time.
I stopped Firstspot, stopped apache, renamed the folder and put my old folder back to see if it would work, restarted apache, restarted firstspot, and hurray it did.
Any idea about why the interfaces take so long to initialize? |

Maybe you setup FirstSpot auto-start?
Also, make sure you don't mix files from different FirstSpot versions.
Windows network sometimes will take a long time to initialize (even without FirstSpot). _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |
