Post subject: A great problem with bandwidth throttling (II)

Thanks for your reply to my questions.

Well, the name of the download accelerator is Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) by SpeedBit you can download it in www.download.com.

I test de real bandwidth used in downloads with Netpersec, and when I use DAP the parameter specified in bandwidth throttle dont work fine.

What happens whit Kazaa, Edonkey, Emule and others programs to share files? When one of this programs is at work, the bandwidth is monopilized and the others users cant work. This is verified by us. The bandwidth throttle dont work with peer to peer protocol.

We dont have any manual and the file firstspot_guide.pdf is very simply, possibly if we knew all the configuration options for the config.ini file, all this problems was solved ¿¿??.

Thanks in advance

Can you verify your problem using GetRight? In the meantime, we will experiment with DAP and probably other peer-to-peer programs as well

Could you give us a download case for DAP?

We are so far unable to reproduce the problem (when we set bt_drop_period=3 in config.ini). We tried the following cases:

1) We tried DAP, and set both upload and download throttling to 20. It seems that throttling works as expected.

2) We tried eMute as well. The upload throttling works fine too. We are still trying to test the download throttling (as we cannot find a fast source)

Again, we need your help on an exact test case. Can you give us a download case for DAP (must be fast) which creates the problem for you?

More update, we are now able to reproduce the problem using eMute on upload.

Will investigate the problem.

Well, actually it turns out that we did not turn on the bandwidth throttling. Sorry. We are back to no test case.

One important reminder, please make sure you setup the throttling correctly. Note that for Standard Edition, there is NO per-user bandwidth throttling (only Global throttling is available. You can set it up in the Dispatcher tab). For Advanced Edition, the per-user throttling setting will override the Global throttling setting. Please double-check your bandwidth throttling setting to make sure it is set up correctly.

frangas, i think that the best solution is a hardware firewall with Qos Control.

While you can certainly take advantage of a hardware QoS, one of the advantage of FirstSpot is you don't need an extra piece of hardware.

There are many customers quite happy is with our Bandwidth Throttling module, and we are committed to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

To make everyone in sync, we use NetMeter ( http://readerror.gmxhome.de ) as a network monitor tools. Just install NetMeter in the FirstSpot machine and monitor both Private and Public Network Interface.
