Post subject: First Time user - need help plz

Ok here is my setup... Its installed, and went thru all config info in the config pannel.
Mine is monthly prices.

hardware:
Cable Modem--> Linksys WRT54G -->PC NIC card titled "Feed" ip addy: 192.168.1.108

Then NIC 2 "D-Link" going to a D-link AirPlus Xtreeme G DI-624 Router. in the "Internet" Port. w/ip (the card's ip ) of 10.20.7.1 subnetmask of 255.255.255.0 but the gateway is blank. and when i do the ipconfig /all it shows this:

Physical address: 00-40-F4-AF-BB-E6
DHCP Enabled: NO
IP Address: 10.20.7.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway :
DNS Servers: 10.20.7.1

Ethernet Adapter Feed:
Physical address: 00-50-8B-4E-53-C6
DHCP ENABLED: YES
Autoconfiguration Enabled: YES
IP address: 192.168.1.108
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers: 68.185.34.67
68.185.32.10
68.116.46.115
then info no the "lease"

Prob is the D-Link is not getting any information from the PC... hence no info getting past the comptuer to the router. Help?

Note that :

1) the WAN port in your "D-link AirPlus Xtreeme G DI-624" should not be used

2) you need to turn off DHCP server and other security features (like WPA) in your "D-link AirPlus Xtreeme G DI-624"

ok did that, but the d-link still will not get adderss's from the card. and the card show's its not any kind of bridging... just shows as I listed above. how is the d-link to get an address from card or route the info (internet address & such) to the other computers .

Tried it and only gets teh 169 crap (windows default address's and no gateway. suggestions?

If we can get this to work I'd be willing ot pay someone to help!

Post subject: router question

how do I change the router from a "router" to just a switch? Meaning how do I make the other comptuers look to teh patronsoft card for their ip addresses and not the router?

Hi

Alan has answered your question in point 1), when the WAN port is not used (use only LAN ports), your router will act as a switch/hub.

Make sure that your network topology is correctly setup before you install firstspot. (e.g ping test)

so the router will automatically change over to a switch by not using the WAN port. Ok. and the "feed" is the dhcp server to the other "dlink" NIC and the rest of the comptuers will get their IP from the Dlink port, cause its getting the dhcp from the Feed NIC.. am I understanding it right?

Since the D-link AP's WAN port is not used, the AP really acts as a switch only.

So all the PCs that plug into the switch (including both wireless and wired ones) will get the IP from FirstSpot DHCP server. Note that FirstSpot is one of the PC that plug into the switch.

Also, note the problem of potential IP conflict stated in http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=578 .
