what is the technology used to control network traffic?

I was thinking IPSec used to block macs, ips and ports... Or maybe just routing tables?

FirstSpot works by blocking all traffic for a specific users before he logs in.

yeah, that I figured out ;-)

What I was asking is 'how'. You can block traffic by using IPSec in windows xp, with the built in firewall, etc.

I see it is using the 'Routing and Remote Access' service, wich controls routing tables, am I right?
