Manage many input connection

I'd have to install a firstspot onto a yacht having:
- an internet satellite dialup connection used when the yacht is on travel,
- an umts router using were possible near the cost,
- and also an isdn router when the yacht reaches a port with an available cabled isdn line.

Each source connection is now selected manually choosing a dialup connection or changing the default gw on the sigle pc connected.

Now we have to implement a wireless network with 7 access point on board and we've chosen FS as software on a single MSWindows PC.

How can, this machine, manage the 3 connections? Is there an easy way to selct the default source connection? Or the operator have to reconfigure FS each time? Is it possible to use FP with a dialup connection?

The easiest way is to put a NAT router between FirstSpot and the Internet. You can pick a router that supports dial-up connection. This way FirstSpot can utilize the dial-up connection.

Note that FirstSpot can cater IP address change in the Public Network Interface side. But since your case involves physical media change as well, a router probably the most convenient solution.

How? Where can i found info regarding this?



FS should then chance only its default gateway IP address, right?

1) I am thinking about a router that supports only dial-up connection (instead of both). Maybe you need to chain two routers in your setup

2) No, FirstSpot cannot use dial-up connection as the Public Network Interface directly.

3) All changes in IP address settings (e.g. IP, gateway) in the Public Network Interface side is handled automatically by FirstSpot. You don't even need to restart FirstSpot.

So, if I change ethernet parameters with some netsh.exe bat script, on FP Desktop I can create nr. 3 icons enabling one gateway instead of other.

If you use netsh.exe just to change the IP setting, yes it should work. Please test it.

Maybe this can help you. It has TWO WAN RJ45 connections (use one for ISDN, one for SAT) and it has a dial-up modem to use as a backup.

I use a similar older DLink product. It automatically switches to dial-up when the Cable modem goes down. I don't use Satellite so I cannot help much there, but if a normal CAT5 cable comes from both the ISDN & Satellite then this maybe could work for you.
